1874 MONNIN French Impressionist Etching Foret et Rochers Original RARE
1874 MONNIN French Impressionist Etching “Foret et Rochers” Original RARE. This is an Authentic and Original antique etched print from 1874. The artist was part of the French Impressionist Movement during the 1870s. This etching is one of a limited number of copper engraved etchings executed for the short-lived art journal “Paris a L’eau-Forte” published and edited by Richard Lesclide between 1873 and 1876 in Paris, France. These publications featured a number Original copper plate etchings in each issue by both noted and “up-and-coming” Impressionist artists of the time. Published in very limited quantities in the Chine-colle method (likely less than 150) each of the prints were mounted on Hollande laid paper by Delatre, Paris (noted paper maker and supplier). This is one of those Original etchings. The journal was instrumental in exposing the public to this new form of art and gave many fledgling artists exposure they may never have had without it. The magazine itself is nearly impssible to find now and the Original etchings are much sought after but seldom found available especially here in the U. A wonderful opportunity to acquire a unique example of late 19th Century printed art. Monnin (active in the 1870s). Title: Foret et Rochers. Paper: Hollande laid paper by Delatre, Paris. Paper size: 8″ x 11 1/2″. Image size (Chine-Colle method, horizontal): 5 1/4″ x 3 5/8″. Artist signature in plate/image. From the June 7, 1874 issue of Paris a L’aeu-Forte. Is a technique in printmaking, in which the image is transferred to a surface that is bonded to a heavier support in the printing process. One purpose is to allow the printmaker to print on a much more delicate surface, such as Japanese paper or linen, and that allows for finer details pulled from the copper plate. Very Good to Excellent Original condition. See photos for condition description. Pictures are of the actual item(s) you will receive. 8 619 Box AA5 #42.
